In December, the villages around Camperduinen get into the Christmas spirit. By the Ruïnekerk in Bergen, in the woods near Schoorl and in the centre of Alkmaar, you'll find stalls, glowing fire baskets and music.
From Camperduinen you can reach them all quickly. Visit a Christmas market in the afternoon, then take a winter walk along the beach or through the Schoorl Dunes. That turns a few days away in December into a real treat.

- Schoorl: at Bospaviljoen de Berenkuil on the Schoorlsezeeweg. 2025 saw the first edition, with marshmallow toasting by the fire and a visit from Father Christmas.
- Alkmaar: Prachtkerst in the city centre, with fire baskets, mulled wine, poffertjes (mini Dutch pancakes) and a Christmas sing-along with local choirs.
- Egmond: the Winterfair at Nieuw Westert in Egmond-Binnen, with handmade products. After Christmas comes the winter street fair (winterbraderie) in Egmond aan Zee.

Practical: how to get there and when
Most markets are held on a Saturday or Sunday, often from late morning until late afternoon. Schoorl is 3 kilometres away, about an eight-minute bike ride. Bergen is 10 kilometres away, around a quarter of an hour by car. Alkmaar is about a 25-minute drive, and Egmond aan Zee around 22 minutes.
At the busiest times, parking in the village centres is tricky. So go early, or take the bike if the weather is kind.
Tip: if two markets fall on the same weekend, combine them. For example, Schoorl in the morning and Bergen in the afternoon. As the dates change every year, check the organisers' websites beforehand.

Every apartment has its own enclosed terrace. Your dog is welcome in Duindroom, Duingeluk and Duinroos, up to one per apartment. The beach is about 600 metres away, around a ten-minute walk. A wintry beach walk is the perfect end to a day at the Christmas market.
