Egmond Half Marathon: stay at Camperduinen
The Egmond Half Marathon takes place every year on the second Sunday of January. On 10 January 2027 it reaches its 52nd edition. You start on the seafront boulevard in Egmond aan Zee, run the first few kilometres along the beach and return to the village through the dunes. Wind, sand and a few tough climbs give this race real character.
Don't fancy getting in the car early on Sunday morning? Then come to Camperduinen a day early. Our four apartments are 16 kilometres from the start. You sleep on the edge of the Schoorl Dunes, and after the finish you have your own place to recover.
The course: beach, dunes and the Bloedweg
The half marathon starts on Boulevard Noord in Egmond aan Zee. You run the first 7 kilometres along the beach. At Castricum aan Zee you head up into the dunes for a stretch on unpaved paths through the Noordhollands Duinreservaat (North Holland Dune Reserve). At Bakkum you reach halfway. From there, paved roads take you back to Egmond, with a stiff climb at the Bloedweg and another short climb by the lighthouse. The finish is back on Boulevard Noord. The time limit is 3 hours.
There is more than just the half marathon:
- Quarter marathon: 10.5 km, with a loop through the village and a stretch of beach
- Family Run: new, a short run for everyone, including athletes with a disability
- Kids Runs: for children aged 4 to 13
This edition's charity is the Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds (a Dutch foundation for muscle disease research).
Practical: entries, shuttle bus and road closures
Individual entries for the half marathon are sold out. You can still take part through a business team or a charity. At the time of writing, entries for the quarter marathon were still available. Registration closes at the end of December, or earlier if places run out. Check the latest status on the organiser's website.
On race day, Egmond aan Zee is closed to incoming cars and motorbikes from 8am to 6pm. You can get there by shuttle bus, by bike or on foot. Shuttle buses run from car parks in Alkmaar (Sportpaleis and Bergermeer) and Heiloo (NS station and Noorderneg). From Camperduinen, it's about a 25-minute drive to Alkmaar. A bus ticket costs €7.50 on the spot, and children up to and including 13 travel free. The organisers advise allowing 1.5 hours from the car park to your start pen. You can change and drop off your bag at Sporthal De Watertoren. There are no showers.
Stay at Camperduinen: peace and quiet before and after the start
Camperduinen consists of four recently renovated apartments on the Munnikenweg. Running as a group? Duinbries sleeps 6. Duindroom and Duingeluk are for 4 people, with the bedrooms on the ground floor. Handy when, after 21 kilometres, your legs never want to see another staircase. Coming as two or three? Choose Duinroos.
On Saturday, go for an easy shake-out run. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, and from the door you can cycle straight into the Schoorl Dunes. After the race, sit outside for a while on your own enclosed terrace. Bringing your dog? One dog per apartment is welcome in Duindroom, Duingeluk and Duinroos. If you stay an extra day, Schoorl and Bergen are just around the corner.
